THU 9/8 (12:15PM) — Looks like Delano Playhouse is gonna back out, so I needed to reconstruct the 6FT+1 division into a 7-team field. That means the #1 seed going into Sunday will have a bye in the quarterfinals, since there’s no #8 seed. I’m just happy that I was able to “amputate” them and not be left with a schedule in ruins. Here are the minor changes to the schedule…

• Tri-State InvAsian now plays on Sat night instead of Fri night.
• Hand Down Man Down will play their 2nd game at 6pm (against Tri-State).
• Tru will play their 2nd game at 8pm (against Tri-State).
• Masters Tri-State vs UCR/Vancouver will be moved to 7pm (was 8pm before).
• Masters Motion vs DaCheng will be moved to 6pm (was 7pm before).

WED 9/7 (3:15PM) — Per my email to captains, here is the schedule for Fri-Sat. I will post the details on how we got here, later tonight when I have more time. Just wanted to get this schedule up asap.

One other outstanding issue is the Winner or Loser of Hand Down Man Down vs Tru. I had to pin Tri-State at 6p Sat, but anyways I’ll explain that when I post to the website. It will still be Loser vs Loser and Winner vs Winner. Find me at the gym.

Finally, I reserve the right to switch your court location (either Court 1 or 2), but I will *not* switch your tipoff time at this point. CAVEATS: If I found out I overlapped a team (e.g., Tri-State InvAsian is playing in both 6FT+1 and MASTERS) *and/or* if Tarkanian screws me over — this has been known to happen.

So obviously at this point if you want anything changed, just keep in mind how difficult it was to get here in the first place. Also, be careful not to confuse Vancouver Deenos (Elite) with UCR/Vancouver (Masters) with Elite Basketball (SJ) — Vancouver Deenos are associated with a group called AthlElite. And there are the two Tri-State InvAsian teams. Here you go…

WHEN: Sep 10-11, 2011 (plus Fri Sep 9 if nec)

TIPOFFS:

• Friday 6pm-9pm (if necessary)
• Saturday 9am-6pm (pool play), 7pm-9pm (low seeds)
• Sunday 9am-5pm (single-elim playoffs, 8-team brackets) — BOOK YOUR FLIGHT 7PM OR LATER

Any special tipoff requests that you have will be taken in order of teams that have paid in full, then teams that have paid the minimum deposit, in chronological order.

WHAT: Pool Play tournament, NBA-style game format. This means two pool play games on Saturday, or Fri-Sat if there are extenuating scheduling circumstances (e.g., you are also playing in the LVI). There may or may not be a third “play-in” game on Saturday night for the right to be one of the eight teams remaining in the single-elimination playoff bracket on Sunday. (Exception: INT/REC division will be Consolation format, read below)

• Asian Nationals = any height, all players must be at least 25% Asian ethnicity
• OPEN = any height, any ethnicity — NEW, SEPARATE DIVISION
• 6FT+1 = 4 players 6’0″ w/o shoes, 5th can be up to 6’2″ w/o shoes but must be 25% Asian
• INT/REC = “for fun only” (NO RINGERS PLEASE!!!)

WHO:

• ASIAN-AMERICAN ELITE AND MASTERS: This means all participants must be of at least 25% of any of the nations represented by the Asian Games, which include the following ethnicities, among others: Arab-American, Indian/Pakistani, Pacific Islander, in additional to other Asian ethnicities.
• 6FT-PLUS-ONE, INT-REC: Any ethnicity is welcome, except for the “plus-one” 6’2″ player for 6FT-PLUS-ONE he must be of Asian descent (see righthand column).
• OPEN: This is a new division run in conjunction with our friends TripleDoubleSports from the Bay. No height requirements, no ethnicity requirements. But be forewarned, our recommendation is your tallest player should be at least 6’5″. Too tall? Well, you can always play in our 6FT+1 division, mentioned above.

COST:

• $400 team entry fee (pay here for $200 deposit to hold your place)
• Note: INT/REC division is $300 due to Consolation Format, read below

SERIOUS ENTRIES ONLY, DEADLINE TO PAY MINIMUM DEPOSIT ($200) IS THURSDAY, SEPT 1st, 2011

The INT/REC will be a Consolation Format, which means a set number of teams (either 6 or 8 ) and the first game will determine which direction you are heading in the bracket. It will end up with 1 game on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday. We do this format because it is not as competitive, and therefore does not require Pool Play (which would also cost more).

The INT/REC entry fee is only $300 as compared to $400 for the other two.
