Grandfathering your Oakland team by 1/1/2012

THE FOLLOWING IS FOR OAKLAND TEAMS ONLY: This season, we will be raising franchise fees from $520 to $550 in Oakland because the gyms there raised them on us during the 2011 Fall season, a cost which we ate. We just have no choice but to pass on these costs, because organizing and running a league becomes very stressful. We’ve been doing this for ten years and we know where we have to draw the line at getting properly compensated and appreciated for our hard work.

However, since I’m in the holiday spirit, recognize that many of you are still trying to find jobs in this Great Recession, and am interested in seeing our teams from previous seasons back finally…

  • …if you pay half the franchise fee by 1/1/2012 at 11:59pm, we will grandfather your team in at the previous rate of $520!!! You will see this below in the OAK/SJ/SF payment matrix.

Deadlines

Per the season calendar, here are the deadlines to pay and be scheduled into the league(s)…

  • As mentioned above, if Oakland teams pay a 50% deposit by Sun 1/1/2012, your first game will be on 1/8, 1/15, or 1/22, depending on when you pay the remainder (7 days before start date).
  • Pay in full or installment deposit by Sun 1/1/2012: this means you will have your first game on 1/8, or
  • Pay in full or installment deposit by Sun 1/8/2012: this means you will have your first game on 1/15.
  • Pay in full or installment deposit by Sun 1/15/2012: this means you will have your first game on 1/22 with a double-header makeup game somewhere between 1/22-3/4.

The latest a team can pay is 1/15, to start games on 1/22 (with a doubleheader makeup). Starting “early” and paying by 1/1 or 1/8 may — or may not, depending on the difficulty of your division’s schedule — afford you a bye week sometime during the 6-week regular season. Franchise Fees, $25/game Referee Cash, Forfeits, Other Fees

$25/GAME REFEREE CASH: In addition to the franchise fees and forfeit bond, your team must bring $25 CASH to each game to pay for the referees; the league will pay for the scorekeepers. The regular season is now 6 games and double-elimination playoffs for all teams; the $25 cash is required before each and every game, regular season and playoffs.

FORFEITS: Due to the price increases and hassle of issues post-mortem refunds, we are doing away with prepaid forfeit bonds, which had protected the league in case a team forfeits. However, in lieu of forfeit bonds, all captains are now required to sign a responsibility form (link to PDF coming soon). This responsibility form will not only bind the captain into payment of $50 forfeit fees (link to list of fees) should his team forfeit, but also into responsibility for his team’s conduct. Thus, captains need to be more mindful of whom they add to their rosters.

OTHER FEES & FINES: If you are a “model” Dream League citizen in continuing to make us a “safe haven” for basketball (see RULES & REGULATIONS), then chances are, you won’t pay any fines. However, like in the NBA, if you make it difficult for us to maintain the safe haven and level playing field as it pertains to ineligible/illegal roster moves, you will be fined, as follows (this will link later to the Fees and Fines page).

Along with paying the franchise fees, you get nine (9) free customized jerseys with names on the back and numbers, although special features such as logos, pinstripes, sizes XXL and above, or other labor-intensive considerations, will incur extra small charges such as $1 or $2 per jersey per feature. Jerseys are typically start at $27.50 base price, so you can already see the savings with the bundles.

Installment Plan – Remaining Payments

PLEASE BE AWARE: Paying in installments is not encouraged, but we offer it because some people just cannot plop down the entire franchise fee at once. However, paying in installments adds a lot of work to Dream League operations, and therefore incurs a significant penalty on your part; it is not cheap — please see the payment plan details below.

After your down payment of $120 for SF, $150 for OAK, or $175 for SJ (select above or below), we will keep track of how much your team has paid. Each week you will come back to this page and pay $100, to be contributed to your team’s franchise fees here.

‘We offer the following payment plan which incurs season-long collection fees totaling $100. Being on our payment plan is a privilege. We reserve the right to refuse the payment plan option to anyone we choose.

(1) Down payment due by Sun 1/8. No byes for entire season. Bring $25 cash for refs 1/15 (1st game).
(2) Pay $100 online by Tue 1/17, total = $220 or $275. Bring $25 cash for refs to Sun 1/22 (2nd game).
(3) Pay $100 online by Tue 1/24, total = $320 or $375. Bring $25 cash for refs to Sun 1/29 (3rd game).
(4) Pay $100 online by Tue 2/7, total = $420 or $475. Bring $25 cash for refs to Sun 2/12 (4th game).
(5) Pay $100 online by Tue 2/21, total = $520 or $575. Bring $25 cash for refs to Sun 2/19 (5th game).
(6) Pay $100 online by Tue 2/28, total = $620 or $675. Bring $25 cash for refs to Sun 3/4 (6th game).
(7) Continue to bring $25 cash for referees for each remaining game, regular season and playoffs.

FAILURE TO PAY AMOUNTS BY THE DATES ABOVE WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE NON-REFUNDABLE TEAM EXPLUSION. Note: the league office will not have the bandwidth to send out reminders. Your team must be paid per the above dates when we are ready to schedule the following weeks’ worth of games.
