WED 1/18 (2:00PM) — Another update with payments. If you paid after 1pm today, it’s not on there yet. Sorry, but I have to make updates in bulk, so each “train” you miss, you’re just on there. After any given train leaves the station, I’ll base my scheduling based on that update. That’s how it goes.

THU 1/12 (1:30PM) — Finished REC-OAK-, which was a pain in the ass… (12:45PM) — Added REC-SF, next up is to finish out REC-OAK+ now that I’ve heard back from Make It Drizze… (12:30PM) — Added REC-OAK+. Next up: REC-SF… (12:15PM) — Added REC-OAK-. Next up: REC-OAK+… (12:00PM) — Added AAA and AL/NL. Next up: REC-OAKs… (11:45AM) — Added A/R-SJ. Next up: AAA-OAK… (11:30AM) — A/R-SF added, fixed A/R-OAK, next up A/R-SJ… (11:15AM) — A/R-OAK added… (11:00AM) — I hope to get the schedule for this Sun 1/15 done by 2pm today.

Here’s what happens the first 2-3 weeks of scheduling. On 1/8 and 1/15 and to a certain extent 1/22, I’ll “randomly” matchup teams based on who has paid, etc. For these first 2-3 weeks, you really have no idea who you’re playing. You also only know that I’ll be doing my best to put you in your timeframe, given your unknown opponent’s timeframe as a complication as well as gym availability. By 1/22 or 1/29, I’ll have what’s called a season schedule template or ROADMAP in place that has mathematically derived matchups. I will fit those matchups with the matchups that already occurred, so that everyone still ends up with 6 regular season games in this math-driven schedule. Suffice it to say, you’ll need to be aware that you’re flying blind for the first couple weeks. Schedules should be up each Thursday.

Here’s a division-by-division breakdown that I will add to as the day goes by, starting with 6FT-SF/OAK and 6FT-SJ…

6FT-SF and 6FT-OAK: We are going to combine the 6FT-SF (5 teams) and 6FT-OAK (1) divisions. We will have one division of 6 teams. Each team will play each other once for 5 games, then the 6th game will be a repeat based on standings. Each of the 5 SF teams will travel once to the OAK team. During the 6th week, the OAK team will play against an SF team. However, for playoffs, this would mean the OAK team gets to play in OAK in Round 1. After that, it will probably alternate for that OAK team. For SF teams, that means the bulk of your games are in SF, with a 20% chance of an OAK game during the playoffs, every other round. For the first week, I’m planning to have the last team that paid, Eagles, make the first trip to OAK; at least that gets it out of the way for them. PROBABLE MATCHUPS FOR 1/15: Eagles at Beast in Oakland (pending approval of Eagles), Trainwreck vs Below The Rim in SF. PROBABLE BYES: SF Free Agents and Scorekeepers. OUT: OAK Rich’s Rayguns.

6FT-SJ: As explained to all SJ captains, we’re gonna try to regroup this division somehow. More info later.

A/R-OAK: Oops, I screwed up. Some of the teams that paid don’t wanna start til 1/22. Here’s the correction. Grey Goose, Undrafted, and Redhawks don’t wanna start til 1/22. We have Sole, Dream, and Main Event left over. Since Dream is scorekeeping for their spot, let’s give the first game to the teams that have paid hard money: Sole vs Main. PROBABLE MATCHUPS FOR 1/15: Sole Supremacy vs Main Event. PROBABLE BYES: Dream, Grey, Undrafted, Redhawks, Seven Brothers. The following crossed out stuff was the original post which erroneously assumed everyone wanted to start on 1/22: No payment from Seven Brothers yet, so they’re the 7th team and odd team out. I usually like to schedule teams with opposite timeframes first so that we get that complication out of the way asap. PROBABLE MATCHUPS FOR 1/15: Grey Goose vs Sole Supremacy A/R, Undrafted vs Redhawks, Dream vs Main Event. PROBABLE BYE: Seven Brothers.

A/R-SF: As of yesterday, where I wrote that I had to put a stop to the moving variables at some point, we had 6 teams paid and of those 6, 5 teams that wanted to start on 1/15. That means there’s a 5th team out for this Sun 1/15. I usually pick the last team to pay to be that team out. Again, best to matchup teams with opposite timeframes first. PROBABLE MATCHUPS FOR 1/15: The Fam vs Motionz, Full Tilt vs Wolverines A/R. PROBABLE BYES: Braves, Chaos, teams that didn’t pay yet.

A/R-SJ: There are exactly 6 teams paid and wanting to start 1/15. Again, I’ll try to matchup teams with opposite timeframes now, to get it out of the way. PROBABLE MATCHUPS FOR 1/15: Pineapple at Good Shepherd, Monstars at Space Jamz, Anklebreakers at Basketballs Of Fury. PROBABLE BYES: Everyone else who wanted 1/22 start or hasn’t paid yet.

AAA-OAK: There are no teams who have both paid and want to start on 1/15. Bye for everyone, I guess.

AAA-SF: There are no teams who have both paid and want to start on 1/15. Bye for everyone, I guess.

AAA-SJ: As emailed and discussed, we are revisiting the San Jose region, although A/R-SJ will begin.

AL/NL: There are no teams who have both paid and want to start on 1/15. Bye for everyone, I guess.

REC-OAK-: Make It Drizzle said it’s ok for them to be in the afternoon, although there will still be complications down the line. But they played two PM games on 1/8, so I’m forced to keep them in PM. Why did they play then? Because I wanted to be nice and they paid and wanted to play 1/8 before we knew we would have AM/PM. With that we have 8 PM teams and 7 AM teams ready to go. The odd team out in the AM will be the Grim Reapers since they paid the least ($150 down). So here are the PROBABLE MATCHUPS FOR 1/15: Triple Threat vs Inglorious Baskets, Make It Drizzle vs Rawkats (probably at 330p), Straight Gunnin vs Lau Ru Lower, Town Biz at Space Jams OAK, Hefty vs Warriors, WWWD vs Kryptonite, Throwing Up Bricks vs Black Out. The following was the previous post, now out of date: 14 teams paid and ready to go for 1/15. Luckily an even number of teams in both AM (8) and PM (6). Gotta remember not to repeat the games we had from 1/8. Still working on matchups and waiting on Make It Drizzle to see if they can be an afternoon team, since the other two teams that started on 1/8 were PM. That would make scheduling much easier. I’ll come back to this.

REC-OAK+: Only 4 of the 11 teams have paid and of those 4, only 3 want to start on 1/15. Of those 3, Team China paid the latest, so I’ll make the PROBABLE MATCHUP FOR 1/15: Black Catz vs JS23.

REC-SF: 5 AM teams ready to go and paid, 3 or 4 PM teams ready (waiting on word from Boogie Down Eagles if they are ready). I don’t want to mix AM with PM yet because it might add complications fitting into the eventual season roadmap if that gets set in stone. Usually what I do is make the odd team out the team that paid last (Wolverines Rec and Team CB in this case, with Team CB dependent on Boogie). PROBABLE MATCHUPS FOR 1/15: Rothstein vs Illuminati, SFFD vs Frisco, Lay Up City vs Hapa, Team CB vs Boogie Down (maybe). BYES: Wolverines and the unpaid teams.

WED 1/11 (1:15PM) — Below is another update to the Rumor Mill table. A few more teams registered, but some haven’t paid yet. Here are some issues…

• In SJ, I’m thinking of “starting over” and asking each SJ team if they wanna be in Gold/A, Silver/B, or Bronze/C. I think I have shot myself in the foot by trying to provide so many different levels as we have experienced in the past with SF and OAK. People are starting to gravitate towards A/R-SJ again. Where did the 16 6ft teams from a year ago disappear to? I think there are competitive concerns.
• In REC-OAK- and REC-SF, it appears we can further subdivide into AM and PM. With the recent gym situations, that makes things a bit easier on the scheduling. In the REC-OAK+, there are 11 teams but we cannot divide into AM/PM because almost all of the teams want to have tipoffs in the afternoon.
• As is always the case, the higher divisions AL/NL, AAA-SJ, AAA-SF, and AAA-OAK will most likely be postponed until 1/22 start. For AAA-SJ, please note the first bullet point above. For some reason, the higher caliber the player, the lazier they are. That’s a basketball mantra. That’s why NBA stars need entourages, right? They figure eventually, someone will be asking them to play, so lemme cruise on by until I get the call. LOL. I’ll be on these guys’ captains to get organized asap.
• In A/R-SJ we have 13 teams and, assuming they all pay, we could split the playoffs into an Upper and Lower, since there are at least 4 of those 13 that originally wanted to be in a Lower REC division. But then again, bullet point #1 above, so we’ll see how the cookie crumbles.

I’m going to start scheduling the games for this Sun 1/15 soon based on who has paid per the Rumor Mill table update below. If you pay after you see this posting, I can’t guarantee that I’ll put you on the schedule. At some point I have to put a temporary stop to the moving variables, just so I can schedule the teams who have paid and are patiently waiting.

TUE 1/10 (3:30PM) — I have updated the Rumor Mill with payments. PAY UP!!! Lol. Here’s the email I just sent to the captains…

I have made an update to the Rumor Mill table and the “Paid” column is now updated. If you do not have at least the minimum down payment ($120 for SF, $150 for OAK, $175 for SJ), then I will not be able to schedule you in for this Sun 1/15.

Let me know your status if you are one of those teams and is expecting to start this Sun 1/15.

SUN 1/8 (10:30PM) — Latest and greatest thru 7pm registrations today. Facebook first pass has been made. Another update expected by 3pm tomorrow, with the latest on payments. Please note, while the first major payment deadline is passing tonight 1/8, I have yet to mark any of the teams below as paid. That comes next, real soon.

SUN 1/8 (9:30AM) — I was going to do a bulk update of the Rumor Mill since the last update three days ago, but then discovered a database error in which I wasn’t able to extract eight (8!) team registrations. So I have to hand-copy/paste them to my spreadsheet and I don’t have time to do that this morning thru afternoon, as I’m headed to ISA to touch a basketball for the first time in God knows how long as well as run the 3 games listed below in Oakland thereafter.

Also, I still have not had time to update the Rumor Mill with guys who contacted me on Facebook. Also not updated: Upper/Lower for REC-OAK and REC-SF since Thursday. I should get to all of this tonight.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE DEADLINE TO PAY IS TONIGHT 1/8, if you want to start on time on 1/15. Otherwise your deadline to pay is 1/15 and you’ll start on 1/22, with a doubleheader makeup necessary.

THU 1/5 (10:00PM) — The following was determined at 4:30PM today via text. The soft-launch schedule for this Sun 1/8 is as follows…

• SAN JOSE: nothing (only two teams ready, not enough for gym director to open)
• SAN FRANCISCO: nothing (only two teams ready, not enough for gym director to open)
• OAKLAND: Bushrod Rec Center, 560 59th Street, Oakland — DON’T FORGET YOUR $25 CASH/GAME!…
• 1:00PM REC- Make It Drizzle vs Straight Gunnin’
• 2:00PM *** 15-MINUTE BREAK ***
• 2:15PM Straight Gunnin’ vs Triple Threat (doubleheader for Straight Gunnin’)
• 3:15PM *** 15-MINUTE BREAK ***
• 3:30PM Triple Threat vs Make It Drizzle (doubleheader for both teams)

All 3 teams above agreed to play a doubleheader, which necessitates the 15-minute breaks, because all 3 teams had a burning desire to get started this Sun 1/8. See you Sunday. If captains don’t have my cellphone number yet, please email me.

THU 1/5 (9:45PM) — Another update, hit the jump link below or keep scrolling. REC-OAK *and* REC-SF teams need to contact me about being in Upper/Lower, which is explained on the Divisions/Teams page (link at top of this article). I have yet to check emails as of 2:30PM today as well as I haven’t even gotten to the Facebook updates… (2:30PM) — Latest and greatest update, below. If you submitted today after 10am, probably not up there yet. Meanwhile, still hashing out schedule for the three Oakland REC- teams that want to start this Sun 1/8.

THU 1/5 (11:15AM) — Update to the last post. BlackCatz wants to wait until 1/15 and Make It Drizzle is actually REC-. That means we only have three paid REC- teams. Unless they go with a doubleheader round-robin of 2 games each, 1 game on the schedule isn’t enough to satisfy the gym director coming out to open the gym. I’m waiting to hear back and will now take a break. Next update to Rumor Mill pushed back from 12pm to 2pm. Sorry… (10:30AM) — Next overall Rumor Mill update should be up by 12:00PM. Meanwhile, for the Oakland games on Sun 1/8, only the REC-OAK teams are ready and among them, we actually only had 5 teams that wanted to start on 1/8, down from the original 7. This is because one of them was incorrectly listed as Monstars, which is a team from SJ (SJ has been postponed to 1/15 as mentioned previously). The other was Black Out which requested to start 1/15. So here are the five teams that wanted to start 1/8 in Oakland…

• REC- Triple Threat (3p+, fka Stealers) — PAID ON 1/1
• REC+ Team China (10a-5p)
• REC+ BlackCatz (3p+) — NO PAYMENT FOUND, WANTS TO START 1/15
• REC- Make It Drizzle (10a-3p) — PAID ON 12/31 8:30PM
• REC- Straight Gunnin (11a-4p) — PAID ON 12/31 10:00PM

As I said before, if it’s only one game, the gym director and refs are not gonna want to come all the way out just for one game. We have that one game: Straight Gunnin vs Triple Threat. The other game would depend on BlackCatz paying or Make It Drizzle responding that they are in REC+; last year they were in A/R-OAK so I’m thinking they probably are REC+, but better to be safe than sorry.

So we’ll wait for word back from Make It Drizzle or BlackCatz… (9:45AM) — There should be another update to the Rumor Mill table below (or jump link below the next couple paragraphs) later today after I finish the Oakland schedule for this Sun 1/8.

Here’s what I just sent the SJ/SF/OAK teams that had registered to start on 1/8. Looks like the vast majority of us will start on 1/15, but we’ll see for Oakland. This really comes as no surprise, as everyone is getting back from the New Year and, generally, whatever date we put out there, people tend to lag. But keep working on your payments and have continual updates with your teammates, so they don’t fall off the wagon as we launch. More info coming later today…

WED 1/4 (3:15PM) — First draft is below, scroll down. Remember, it’s still early. Also, we are missing the updates I got from people via Facebook. I’m gonna email the REC-OAK captains right now and ask if they belong in Upper or Lower. Then me and my staff will scrutinize the rosters accordingly. Looks like most people want it split that way instead of AM/PM. Which btw costs me more money, actually, since it’s harder to schedule and almost guarantees we’d need more gyms to accommodate. So if you hear that crap about me “being about the money”, you know that’s B.S. hatin’. When I’m “about the money”, that only means I want you to pay on time and respect my time so that I don’t have to put on my “bill collector” hat. Seriously, I don’t want your money if you think what we do at Dream League is a raw deal; I’ve gone through great pains to make it affordable… (12:45PM) — My ETA for the first draft of the Rumor Mill is by 3:00PM today. If you submitted a registration after 11:00AM today, it will probably not be on there. But I’ll be updating it again tonight, so after I get the first draft up, we should be in full motion. First drafts are always the hardest to get off the ground… (8:15AM) — I’m still working on the getting the first draft of the Rumor Mill up, but here’s a message I recently emailed to captains who put 1/8 as their start date. Hopefully it gives you some insights as to what’s happening behind the scenes and how things are organized within Dream League…
