Bird’s Eye View Schedule for 1/23

SAT 1/22 (11:05AM) — Team Undrafted also requested to be swapped because they have church and can’t get to the gym until 3p, but apparently there is no swap available and I had no choice but to put them at 2pm as you can see in the schedule. In these cases when your normal timeframe does not allow you the normal tipoff, then you get a free Special Request in the future (no $5). But just remember to remind me when you post the request.
Also, please be reminded that knowingly forfeiting (and forfeiting itself) is perhaps the worst thing that could possibly happen. There are heavy fines involved to cover the cost of the refs who expect to be paid any time they are assigned for a game. Therefore, I hope that Undrafted can field a team and avoid a situation where someone would need to pay the refs $50 for their pre-assigned game.
Please note, if your opponent ever forfeits on you, you should NOT pay the ref $25. That should be paid by the team that forfeited to you, within 48 hours of the game that they forfeited. Otherwise, the team that forfeited could be expelled from the league for not covering basic league costs in an acceptable time frame ahead of the next week of scheduling. Have your captain text me on the spot if there are any issues.
SAT 1/22 (11:00AM) — The following swap was made by and approved by all captains involved. The corrected version of the schedule is below…
Original
BCRC 5:30 Tone Team vs Mix Team
IJRC: 4:00 Rawkats vs AOB
New

THU 1/20 (11:45PM) — Scroll down past the next few paragraphs to see the tipoffs for this Sun 1/23…
You will notice from the BYE list in the righthand column below and on the Roadmap articles, as well as the Rumor Mill page (use the upper RH menus or just search on “rumor mill”) that there are a lot of divisions that have an odd number of teams. In those cases, one team must take a bye each week.
I know it sucks that we are only in our 2nd week and everyone is gung-ho about playing their next game. There’s no bigger letdown right now than to be flying blind, as I admitted we were doing, these past four days, only to find out it’s your team taking the first bye.
Well, someone has to take the bye.
In most cases, I actually took a look at which teams won on 1/16 by the biggest margins and in my sadistic way of trying to force parity on the situation, I made that team that won by a blowout on 1/16 take the first bye. In other cases, I honestly can’t remember (such as 6FT-SJ Beechwood), but I assure you, it was for a good reason. It could have been some bye request for the future by some other team that caused a trickle-down mathematical result, ending up with your team taking the first bye.
That being said, taking the bye now, IMHO, is better than taking a bye later in the season. First of all, we’ve got the 2/6 Superbowl and 2/20 holidays. PLEASE NOTE: many teams are expected to play on 2/20, which hopefully is a good thing. These two “holidays” are really big potholes in the momentum of a weekend warrior league — nevertheless there were many captains who emailed me back regarding 2/6 and 2/20 and saying they wanted both weekends off! Party animals! Anyways, as a player I always thought the worst luck was when you got a bye right before playoffs. You want to go into the playoffs with some momentum but, hey, sometimes you just gotta deal with the cards you were dealt.
Thanks for everyone’s understanding. I’ll pretty up the roadmaps soon and talk about them on their respective pages. Always fun to probe a little into each division. I hope to have those done by next week.
THU 1/20 (10:30PM) — It’s done! Lemme eat some dinner and I’ll post reasons as to how I chose which teams to take the natural byes.
NOTE: If you see blank rows in the table below, there are errors; if so, please disregard the table and email me immediately.

THU 1/20 (7:30PM) — Done with SF and SJ gyms! I left OAK for last because, as mentioned before, that one’s a beeyatch with all my scorekeepers there on multiple teams… THU 1/20 (6:15PM) — Oops messed up EastBay Elite vs BlitzKrieg and Beast at Wolves. Basically I messed up a couple 6FT-OSF locations (sometimes that happens with that division). Should be in Oakland. Fixed on my spreadsheet, will update here later… (5:15PM) — Core dump. All these matchups you can find on your roadmap (maybe enter a “roadmap” in the search area to find these, among other ways). NOTHING is in chronological order, only cities are correct. Gotta lotta work to do still. Check your pref1 and pref2 columns to make sure I captured info from the Request page correctly…
